The Better Half is a pub on a little known street in Hove. Previously known as the Red Lion (or the Dead Lion due to it’s lack of patronage and tired nature), it was bought by Simon Stern who had the vision to breath new life into what has become one of the most popular pubs in Brighton & Hove.
The intention from the offset was to put the heart and soul back into the pub without it veering into an overly generic and decorative makeover. It was about putting people first and giving the pub what it needed to grow organically and establish it’s own personality through fascination, belonging, humour and story whilst preserving an authentic pub feel.

Simon’s ambitions was to regenerate the pub entirely which included everything from a new name, branding, decoration, interior and exterior design. My personal input to the regeneration centred around giving the pub a new brand identity as well as being responsible for producing the unique art on the walls and ceilings.
I took over the maintaining of the brand independently which included the design and build of the website, copywriting and all promotion and advertising that is essential in the everyday running of a pub.
